RE: Fitness and smoking
If you ask me, as a smoker that also keeps pretty fit, I work
harder to keep fit as I recognise the damage that I am doing
to myself, and try to compensate.
Its a bit of a self-defeating cycle, and I guess eventually
I will stop, but at the present time I have noticed no ill
effects. That said, whilst my smoking is an issue, I dont
stuff myself full of junk food or drink myself to sleep evry
night, things that I beleive can only make the situation
worse.
Its all about moderation in all things - I smoke about 10
cigs a day, swim 3 miles, and throw weights. i go for a drink
a couple of times a week. On a Friday I treat myself to a take-out
pizza rather than cook something up. I look and feel the
same now (at 28) that I did at 21 (albeit with a few laughter
lines and a more mature outlook on life!).
So I dont think all us smoking yet sporty types are trying
to quit - just trying to compensate. Ask me in 5 years time!
